itag Skillnet & Avaya Launch Job Seekers Support Program

Avaya International Sales Limited, a major telecoms research and development centre based in Mervue Business Park, Galway, has a history in supporting individuals back into employment and takes a proactive approach to building a sustainable workforce. Since the inception of the JobBridge program in 2011 Avaya has provided placements focused on providing hands-on training to job seekers looking to enhance their opportunities in the labour market. 80% of jobseekers that have completed their internship with Avaya have successfully secured paid employment with the vast majority of those securing permanent roles at Avaya

On the back of a very successful 2014 JSSP Program (Now Skills Connect), Avaya in conjunction with itag Skillnet,  launched a second ‘Job Seekers Support Program’ (JSSP) to begin on 17th October, 2015. This program aimed solely at training unemployed people (on live register for 6 months or more) provided skills which are in demand by ICT industry. Training was provided on the Avaya Campus in Galway and took in 12 job seekers through an intensive and fast tracked software engineering development curriculum. The program was targeted at job seekers with limited IT background who had a proactive positive attitude, were capable of working independently or as part of a cross functional team, possessed  good written and verbal communication skills. General knowledge and understanding of Information Technology Infrastructures were an advantage. Opportunities existed in the following areas:-
